Eid Moon Sighting USA, UK & Europe

Islamic lunar calendar is based upon the position of a moon around the earth. As the new moon appears after completing its orbit around the earth in 29 or 30 days, marks the completion of one Islamic month. There cannot be three consecutive Islamic months having thirty days means there has to be a third Islamic month having 29 days. That is something proved during the course of time since fourteen centuries of the Islamic Hijri calendar.

Different methods have been developed and adopted around the world for moon sightings in particular context of the first moon for the month of Shawwal or we can say the determinant to announce Eid al-Fitr 2017

According to Islamic tradition and practices, there has to be a witness man or women acclaiming their sighting of the moon if the sky is not clear. There will be no need to start statement by saying ‘I testify’, unlike all the other matters where witness testifying will be required as evidence.

With the advancement in telescopes and space technology although these testimonies could be verified but there have been incidences where authorities have to rely solely upon the witness sightings.
